In any standard account of Islam and Muslim communities in South India, especially the ‘Mappila’ [i] Muslims of Kerala receive very limited accesses in academic sphere. They have been considered only in a peripheral way- the Muslim history in South Asia. Kerala Muslims, who constitute 26.6% of the total population of the state, do have their own characteristics and peculiarities that certainly distinguish them from the other Muslims of India. The community came through various stages of struggles for existence and identity from early period till date.
