In any standard account of Islam and Muslim communities in South India, especially the ‘Mappila’ [i] Muslims of Kerala receive very limited accesses in academic sphere. They have been considered only in a peripheral way- the Muslim history in South Asia. Kerala Muslims, who constitute 26.6% of the total population of the state, do have their own characteristics and peculiarities that certainly distinguish them from the other Muslims of India.
